Young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal broke a long-standing 51-year-old record of the legendary Sunil Gavaskar in the ongoing Chennai Test against Bangladesh. Playing his tenth Test match, Jaiswal surpassed Gavaskar to hold the record for the most runs by an Indian batter in their first 10 Test matches.

Jaiswal overtook Gavaskar’s tally of 978 runs as his total has reached 1,094 runs during the first Test match against Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Jaiswal scored only 10 runs in the second innings after 56 in the first. He broke Gavaskar’s 51-year-old record, which had stood since 1973.
