Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General, has called for immediate steps to be taken by those at heightened risk to protect themselves from the fast-spreading viral disease that has escalated in many countries. He said most numbers of monkeypox cases detected since the outbreak has surged among gay and bisexual men. To date, over 18,000 cases of monkeypox have been reported in 75 countries, with deaths only reported in Africa. Four confirmed cases have also emerged in India. Tedros said, “that means making safe choices for yourself and others, for men who have sex with men," adding that “this includes, for the moment, reducing your number of sexual partners."
