Cigarettes and tobacco products will become costlier after the Budget. Customs duty on footwear has been raised to 35% from 25% and on furniture goods to 25% from 20%. Whereas, customs duty on certain inputs and raw materials like fuse, chemicals, and plastics has been lowered. Basic customs duty on news print and light-weight coated paper imports has been reduced.

Here’s a look at the things that are set to become costly and those whose prices will see a drop:

Costly:

1. FM raises excise duty on cigarettes, tobacco products.
2. Customs duty on imported footwear and furniture increased.
3. Health cess on import of medical equipment.
4. Customs duty on wall fans increased from 7.5% to 20%.
5. Customs duty on tableware/kitchenware made of porcelain or China ceramic, clay iron, steel, copper doubled to 20%.

Cheap:

1. FM halves customs duty on import of newsprint, light weight coated paper to 5%.
2. Anti-dumpting duty on purified terephthalic acid (PTA) abolished.
3. Customs duty exemption on raw sugar, agro-animal based products, Tuna bait, skimmed milk, certain alcoholic beverages, soya fibre, soya protein withdrawn.
