A special court reserved its order on Wednesday on the plea of Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s brother-in-law Robert Vadra, who sought permission to travel abroad on medical grounds. Citing Vadra’s medical report, his counsel K T S Tulsi said he needed to go to London to seek a second opinion for a small tumour he had in his large intestine.
The Enforcement Directorate, which has been pleading for custodial interrogation of Vadra in various money laundering cases, vehemently opposed his plea. Appearing for ED, solicitor general (SG) Tushar Mehta told the court that if allowed to fly abroad, Vadra might not return. Special judge Arvind Kumar has fixed June 3 to pass the order on Vadra’s plea. “Vadra is facing serious charges. The medical condition is a pretext to go out of India where the laundered money is,” solicitor general Tushar Mehta said.
