The budget session of Parliament is set to begin from 29 January and the Union Budget 2018 will be presented on 1 February, parliamentary affairs minister Ananth Kumar said on Friday. “First part of the budget session to be held from 29 January to 9 February, budget to be presented on 1 February. The second part to be held from 5 March to 6 April,” Kumar told reporters on the last day of the winter session.
In 2016, the government advanced the presentation of the Union Budget to the first day of February, departing from the practice of presenting it on the last working day of that month, to give more time to government departments to spend the money allocated to them. Union Budget 2018 will also be the first budget to be presented since the rollout of the goods and services tax (GST).
