The Tamil Nadu government has extended lockdown in the State till August 31, albeit with more relaxations. In Greater Chennai, with the exception of containment zones, following activities will be allowed:

- Private firms, industries and export firms can now allow 75% workforce to come to office. Earlier it was 50%.

- Restaurants, hotels and tea shops can allow dine-in customers upto 50% seating capacity between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. AC is not allowed. Parcel services will be allowed till 9 p.m.

- Small places of worship (those with annual revenue of less than ₹10,000) will be open for public in towns and municipalities. Those under corporations not allowed. (applicable for whole of TN, minus containment zones)

- Grocery and vegetable marts can function from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m, and other shops can stay open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

- E-Commerce firms can deliver non-essential goods too henceforth.

- Complete lockdown on Sundays to continue.

- E-pass for inter-State travel to continue.
