Andaman and Nicobar Command chief Vice Admiral Bimal Verma has moved court against the NDA government’s “arbitrary and whimsical decision” to supersede him and appoint Eastern Naval Command chief Vice Admiral Karambir Singh as the next Navy chief after Admiral Sunil Lanba retires on May 31.
The move by Vice Admiral Verma, who was commissioned into the Navy six months before Vice Admiral Singh in January 1980, is the first instance in recent memory of a top officer taking legal recourse against his supersession for a military chief ’s post.
