West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Wednesday, 29 May, that she has been “compelled not to attend” Narendra Modi’s oath-taking ceremony as prime minister, adding that the ceremony should not be used as an “opportunity to score political points.”
In her tweet, she mentioned, “In the last one hour, I am seeing media reports that the BJP is claiming 54 people have been murdered in political violence in Bengal,".
"This is completely untrue. There have been no political murders in Bengal. There is no record with us. Sorry, this has compelled me not to attend the ceremony," Mamata Banerjee added.
Slamming the West Bengal chief minister over her decision, BJP said Mamata was just skipping the event over the party’s decision to invite families of workers killed in the violence.”
