A day after the Bombay High Court told the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) that it had failed to protect witnesses in the ongoing Sohrabuddin Sheikh trial, the agency said on Tuesday it has not received any complaint from any witness seeking protection. Additional Solicitor General Anil Singh appearing for CBI told a single bench of Justice Revati Mohite-dere that it has not received any complaint from any witness and that the agency is ready and willing to provide police protection if anyone approaches with a complaint. The ASG assured the court that the CBI, as a practice, always tells witnesses at the time of serving summons to intimate the agency in case of any apprehension.
Mr. Singh was responding to a query from Justice Mohite-Dere who is hearing pleas challenging discharge of some police officers from the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter killing case.
