The Supreme Court collegium has reiterated the recommendation to elevate Jharkhand HC Chief Justice Aniruddha Bose and Gauhati HC CJ A S Bopanna to the apex court. The government had returned the two names for reconsideration citing lack of seniority and non-representation of other HCs.
The collegium also recommended the appointment of Bombay HC’s Justice B R Gavai and Himachal Pradesh HC CJ Surya Kant to the SC. If the four recommendations are accepted, the SC will function at its full strength of 31 judges after several years.
