With fresh infections, the total active coronavirus cases in the country has mounted to 34,87,229, according to the data released by the Union Health Ministry of Family and Welfare on Wednesday morning.
Meanwhile, 3,780 more people succumbed to the infection in the last 24 hours, taking the nationwide toll to 2,26,188. This is the highest Covid daily toll India reported since the pandemic began. The maximum casualties were reported in Maharashtra (891), followed by Uttar Pradesh with 351 daily deaths.
Also, a total of 1,69,51,731 have recovered from the infection so far, the Union health ministry said on Wednesday morning.
