US President Donald Trump on Monday stepped into the India-Pakistan diplomatic minefield, offering to mediate in the Kashmir issue between the two sides and claiming that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also asked him to help in the matter.
In remarks before pool reporters arrayed in the White House Oval Office ahead of his talks with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan, Trump said he would “love to be a mediator” after Khan requested him to intercede in the matter, saying he would have Pakistan’s prayers if he could help resolve the issue.
