The Banyan City breathed slightly easy as rain abated, but normal life remained crippled as roads, residential societies and educational institutes in most areas remained submerged following 500 mm inch rainfall in 24 hours ending 8am on Thursday.
At least 5,000 people from low-lying places and marooned localities were shifted to safer places as waters of the overflowing crocodile-infested Vishwamitri river flooded several areas. The river kept swelling till afternoon as Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) released water from the Ajwa reservoir which got heavy influx due to incessant rains in upper catchment areas.
