Railways had decided to enforce a ban on single-use of plastic materials on its premises, including train with effects from Oct 2 i.e Gandhi Jayanti.
The Railway board on Monday issued a circular to all regional offices, asking the officers in charge to ensure that plastic of thickness below 50 microns is not used, ‘except where the thickness of such plastic sheets impair the product’s functionality’. The ban will be strictly enforced on Railway stations and other properties across the country.
“IRCTC to implement the return of plastic drinking water bottles as part of extended producer responsibility,” it said, adding that plastic bottle crushing machines will be provided expeditiously.
