Congress president Rahul Gandhi has promised to give Rs 72,000 per annum to 20% of India's most poor families under minimum basic income guarantee scheme if Congress comes to power after the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The scheme will benefit 5 crore families and 25 crore individuals directly. The money would be directly transferred to bank accounts. Benefits will be given to families having income less than 12000
"It is fiscally possible. We have been studying the scheme for four-five months. We committed to the MGNREGA, we delivered MGNREGA ... now we will ensure justice for the poor," said Rahul Gandhi.
“People have suffered in the last five years. We will give justice to them,” Rahul Gandhi says. “We will wipe out poverty from the country.”
After making the big announcement, he asked the media, "Haan, surprise hue na? (so, you look shocked)"
