Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday turned Rahul Gandhi’s adviser Sam Pitroda’s reference to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots as a mere event in the past into a sharp political point, saying the dismissive comment reeked of Congress’s arrogance and insensitivity.
Modi said the 1984 riots were a “big, horrendous genocide” and repeatedly touched on Pitroda’s comment “hua to hua (if it happened, it happened)” at a rally here. Asking the crowd if they could forgive Congress, the PM repeated the three words around half-a-dozen times. Six SAD-BJP candidates of Doaba and Majha regions were on stage along with former CM Parkash Singh Badal.
