Hours after the results for the Delhi Assembly elections were announced, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that the people of Delhi had liberated themselves “from a decade of ‘AAP-da'”, and that a “new history” had been written in the Capital.
While saying that people from all sections had voted for the BJP, Modi added that the citizens of Delhi had rejected “appeasement” and chosen “santushtikaran (fulfillment)”. “I see enthusiasm and relief in the people of Delhi. Enthusiasm for BJP’s victory, and relief because Delhi is free of ‘AAPda’,” Modi said.
He said that the people of Delhi had never disappointed him in the Lok Sabha polls, handing victory to the BJP in all seven seats for the past three general elections. “Delhi’s voters have made it clear, the rightful owner of Delhi are its people. Those who had the arrogance that they were the owners of Delhi have been confronted with the truth,” PM Modi said.
He said that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) provides the “guarantee of development and good governance” for the poor and middle class. “Our party has always seen the middle class as a priority. They benefit from our policies. Startup India is helping people from smaller cities realise their dreams,” Modi said.
The Prime Minister also thanked the people of Delhi for the mandate, adding that he regretted not having had the opportunity to serve them. “I had sent a letter to all the people of Delhi…I had requested them to give the BJP a chance to serve them in the 21st century,” Modi said, adding that the people of Delhi had accepted the request.
“In Delhi, the politics of protests, struggle and administrative ambiguity has led to great losses for the people. Today, you have rid Delhi of an obstacle,” the Prime Minister said.
“Today’s results show that people believe in BJP’s double engine government,” Modi said.
