Prime Minister Narendra Modi today launched 'Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav', the government's initiative to mark 75 years of India's Independence. Modi said the 75th-anniversary celebrations will continue till 15 August 2023.

*Today is the first day of the Amrit Mahotsav. This Mahotsav has started 75 weeks before 15th August 2022 and will run till August 15 2023.
* The event is being launched from places that were major centres of India's fight for independence - from Sabarmati Ashram in Gujarat to Cellular Jail in Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Jalianwala Baug in Punjab to Meerut in Uttar Pradesh.
*Five pillars will inspire the dreams and duties of independent India. These pillars are freedom struggle, ideas at 75, achievements at 75, actions at 75, more resolves at 75.
* 'Azadi ka amrut mahotsav' means the elixir of the energy of freedom, it means the nectar of inspiration from freedom fighters, the nectar of new ideas, the nectar of new resolutions. and the nectar of self-reliance.
* Salt has never been valued by its cost in our country. Salt here means honesty. Salt means faith. Salt means loyalty.
* During the freedom struggle, salt was a symbol of India's self-reliance. Along with Indian values, the British had also hurt our self-reliance. People of India had to depend on salt coming from England.
