Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Dhekiajuli, Assam, after laying foundation stone for a medical college each in Biswanath and Charaideo said, “Assam will have a vernacular medium and a technical college soon after Assembly elections”.

“A pity Assam had only 6 medical colleges in 70 years after independence. Assam government's initiatives to open more medical colleges can help produce 1,600 doctors annually,” he said.

He launched the Assam Mala road project under Bharat Mala, and said it will play a major role in improving connectivity in the State. He said it will improve State highways and connect villages to the urban centres in the next 15 years.Mr. Modi said, “Foreign powers trying to destroy Assam's tea, an industry I am connected with. Will you accept this attack?”

He lauded the Assam government for transferring cash to the bank accounts of some 7.5 lakh tea plantation workers. The transfer was done on Saturday at a function in Guwahati that Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presided over. "We have announced Rs. 1,000 crore for the development of tea plantation workers. Budget for 2021-22 underlines significant increase in allocation for healthcare," he said.
