Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday warned that the Indian youth will face severe unemployment in coming months due to the impact of coronavirus pandemic.Taking to Twitter, Gandhi stressed that the country will no be able to provide jobs to the young people in this country and said he was mocked at when he had warned the situation earlier.

"India will not be able to provide employment to youth. Media made fun of me when I warned the country that there will be heavy loss due to Covid-19. Today I am saying our country won't be able to give jobs. If you don't agree then wait for six to seven months, the Congress leader said.

The news report cited by Gandhi claimed that around 1.89 crore jobs were lost due to the coronavirus pandemic from April onwards. According to the latest data released by the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), nearly five million salaried people in India lost their jobs in July. More than 1.8 crore salaried employees lost their jobs after the Covid-19 pandemic forced businesses and firms to shutdown in India since April. Worth mentioning that 21 per cent of all employment in India is in the form of salaried employment, far lower than the number of those engaged in the informal sector.
