Janata Dal president Nitish Kumar on Sunday resigned as the Bihar chief minister after severing ties with the ‘Mahagathbandhan’ to break away from the ruling government. Submitting his resignation to Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar at Raj Bhavan in Patna, Nitish Kumar said his party has decided to sever ties with the Mahagathbandhan comprising the Rashtriya Janata Dal and the Congress.
According to the report, Nitish Kumar would be staking a claim to form the government after rejoining hands with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
In his first reaction after resigning as the Bihar chief minister, Nitish Kumar said he has asked the Governor to dissolve the government in the state. “Today, I have resigned as the Chief Minister and I have also told the Governor to dissolve the government in the state," Nitish Kumar said.
