What was supposed to be an 11-hour journey turned into a 17-hour ordeal for 1,050 people aboard Kolhapurbound Mahalaxmi Express that left Mumbai around 8.30 pm on Friday after the train got stuck in flooded tracks near Chamtoli village between Badlapur and Vangani stations, around 70 km from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, as Ulhas river was in spate following heavy rains. The river was overflowing around 200 metre from the spot where the train was stuck.
