After NCP leader Ajit Pawar, in a stunning move, took oath as the deputy chief minister of Maharashtra, engineering a split in the party, the opposition camp was in a state of dismay on Sunday. Ajit Pawar's decision to dump his uncle Sharad Pawar and join hands with the BJP prompted many opposition leaders to dial the NCP veteran and extend their support to him.
Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, senior party leader Rahul Gandhi and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee dialled Sharad Pawar and offered support to him.
Sharad Pawar said he is receiving support from various corners of the country. I received a call from Mamata Banerjee and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and that is why I am not worried about today's incident," he said.
