12 new astronauts have been selected by American Space Agency NASA from record number of over 18,000 applicants. They will be trained for missions into Earth orbit and deep space. The group comprising seven men and five women is the largest that NASA has selected in almost two decades. They will undergo two years of training before assigned to missions.
