With a continuous surge in Covid-19 cases, Mumbai on Friday became the first city in India to breach the 1,000 mark, and with13 deaths reported on Friday, Maharashtra became the first state to cross the 100 mark in terms of the toll.
While 210 new cases were reported in the state, taking the tally to 1,574, the death count went up to 110. The case fatality rate of the state continued to be 7%, one of the highest in the country. With an addition of 132 cases in Mumbai, the city now has 1,008 positive cases and accounts for 64% of Maharashtra’s cases. Of the 13 deaths, 10 were reported from Mumbai, taking its toll to 64. The other 3 deaths were reported from Pune, Panvel and Vasai-Virar.
