A former Buddhist monk, Tenzin Mariko after becoming Tibet’s first transgender model has taken the internet by storm.

As per TOI, Tenzin whose birth name was Tenzin Ugen, was born male and came in India in 1990s with family of six brothers to settle down in Bir, Himachal Pradesh. In early days, Tenzin was attracted to all female, she was told by her family and friends. Then latter Tenzin was sent to a monastery at the age of 9 but it could not change her likeness towards feminine things.

She recalls the moment when she decided to undergo sex change surgery. She makes decision after her video as a monk, wearing a woman’s wig and make up and dancing had gone viral in 2014. After that she was insulted for her tense behavior.

In 2015 she introduced herself as a dancer at Miss Tibet pageant in Dharamshala. Now she is a professional dancer, model, make-up artist and an influencer. Mariko added that, “Our Tibetan community is small, but they treat me as a celebrity now”, so I’m very happy.
