Latest data show that Maharashtra and Gujarat remain the worst-affected in terms of deaths from coronavirus infection and also the number of cases. Maharashtra now has over 23,000 cases while Gujarat has over 8,000 cases. In Maharashtra, over 860 people have died from the virus while Gujarat has over 500 deaths. Tamil Nadu also seems to be at a higher risk with over 8,000 cases, but it has a far lower death count at 53. West Bengal seems to be facing a higher risk from the virus in terms of mortality rate; the state has 2,063 cases but at least 190 deaths, signalling a high mortality rate.
