Madhya Pradesh's Congress government finds itself in a precarious position, having been weakened by the resignations of 22 MLAs loyal to Jyotiraditya Scindia, a former senior party leader who defected to the BJP last week. But Chief Minister Kamal Nath got a breather on Monday when -- despite the Governor's instruction that a floor test should be held that day -- the assembly was adjourned for 10 days keeping in mind the spread of the new coronavirus disease, Covid-19. The BJP then asked the Supreme Court to order an immediate floor test. The court on Tuesday asked the Madhya Pradesh government to respond to that plea -- filed by former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan -- after lawyers for the Congress didn't show up. A hearing is due today at 10.30 am.
