The Gujarat high court on Tuesday scrapped the victory of state law and education minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama, holding the 2017 assembly election for Dholka constituency void because of “corrupt practices” employed by the minister to win it.
The court order comes as a major embarrassment because it highlights how the minister secured his victory through the returning officer, Dhaval Jani, whom the minister later tried to reward by promoting despite the Election Commission of India (ECI) ordering the state government to initiate proceedings against Jani.
