The Bombay High Court on Monday said if a Covid-19 patient dies in a state or civic-run hospital due to culpable negligence on part of the medical facility, then his/her family members would be entitled for compensation. A division bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice N J Jamadar said the state government has a duty and responsibility towards its citizens.The bench was hearing a public interest litigation filed by BJP leader Ashish Shelar, raising concerns over the manner in which hospitals run by government and civic bodies across Maharashtra were managing and disposing bodies of Covid-19 patients.
