A journalist and his brother were shot dead inside their house by unidentified assailants in Uttar Pradesh's Saharanpur on Sunday. The deceased journalist, who was working for a Hindi newspaper, has been identified as Ashish Janwani. Police personnel have been deployed near Ashish's residence and in the vicinity to keep a check on suspicious movements.
“Hon’ble CM has taken cognisance of the Saharanpur incident wherein the journalist of Dainik Jagran and his brother were shot dead by the assailants. SSP Saharanpur has been directed of the strongest action. The government stands by the bereaved family in this moment of grief,” a government statement said.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh each to the kin of the journalist and his brother, the statement added.
