The Janata Dal (United) expelled its former vice-president Prashant Kishor and senior aide Pavan Varma. The move came a day after a war of words between Kishor and party chief Nitish Kumar who claimed that the former was inducted into the party at the direction of Amit Shah. Dismissing the allegations as "fake", Kishor had criticised Shah. Both Kishor and Varma have been at loggerheads with Kumar over the party's stand against the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
