WHO chief scientist Dr Soumya Swaminathan has said it might take at least 1-1.5 years to develop a COVID-19 vaccine "as finding a new vaccine involves a testing process". She said it takes 5-10 years to develop a vaccine under normal circumstances, but the time is reduced with joint efforts by WHO and other agencies in case of the pandemic.
