On the day of India's Aditya-L1 mission launch into space, the Chief of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), S Somnath, received a diagnosis of cancer. "There were some health issues during the Chandrayaan-3 mission launch. However, it was not clear to me at the time, I did not have a clear understanding about it," Somnath said.
The news of his cancer diagnosis came as a shock not only to S Somnath but also to his family and colleagues. The diagnosis coincided with the launch of the Aditya-L1 mission, adding a personal challenge to the professional achievements of the ISRO Chief.
