The Union government has decided to waive off basic customs duty on the import of Covid-19 vaccines for three months. It has also decided to waive off the basic customs duty and health cess on medical oxygen and oxygen-related equipment.The decision was taken in a meeting to discuss meausres to increase the supply of oxygen and oxygen related equipment amid the deadly surge in the Covid-19 cases in India. The meeting was chaired by PM Narendra Modi. The prime minister also announced the development on Twitter. He said, "At the high-level meeting, key decisions of waiving customs duty on oxygen and oxygen related equipment & COVID-19 vaccines were taken."
