DRDO has successfully tested the Supersonic Missile Assisted Release of Torpedo (SMART) from APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the Odisha coast. It is a missile assisted release of lightweight Anti-Submarine Torpedo System for warfare operations beyond torpedo range. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said, "This will be a major technology breakthrough for stand-off capability in anti-submarine warfare."
