India's oldest scientific organisation, the Survey of India (SOI), was set up on January 29, 1767, 10 years before the United States was born. The organisation is the official map maker for India and keeps records of the exact international borders of the country. Interestingly, SOI accurately estimated the true height of the Mount Everest in 1855.
