India recorded 12,591 new Covid cases in the last 24 hours, the highest in around eight months, according to data released by the Union Health Ministry on Thursday. The active caseload now stands at 65,286.
The active cases saw a significant jump from yesterday's numbers when 10,542 cases were recorded.
40 people died from the virus in one day, including 11 deaths reconciled by Kerala. The highest number of deaths was recorded in Delhi, where six people died from Covid. The death toll increased to 5,31,230 with the fatalities reported in the last 24 hours.
