India was ranked 15th on the 2017 World Watch List by monitoring organisation Open Doors that is aimed at supporting persecuted Christians. India was ranked 31st on the list four years ago. The Open Doors report claimed that this comes after a rise in the number of attacks on the Christian minority in 2016.
