The Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) has analysed self-sworn affidavits of 1064 out of 1066 candidates in the fray in the Bihar Assembly election, and has found that 375 candidates who are contesting in the Bihar election phase I are crorepatis. The records also show that 328 candidates in phase 1 of the Bihar election 2020 have criminal cases registered against them. According to the ADR report, a total of 244 (23 per cent) candidates contesting in phase I of Bihar election 2020 have serious criminal cases (assault, murder, kidnap, rape-related cases) against them.
The report says that out of the 1064 analysed candidates, 375 (35 per cent) are crorepatis. While 93 (9 per cent) candidates have declared assets worth Rs 5 crore and above, 123 (12 per cent) candidates contesting in Bihar election phase I, have declared assets worth Rs 2 crore to Rs 5 crore.The average of assets per candidate contesting in the Bihar election 2020 phase I is Rs 1.99 crore.
