The IMD on Thursday withdrew the red alert for Chennai since the depression had weakened but added that heavy rains may continue in some parts of the city. Besides Chennai, a red alert was also issued for Tiruvallur, Kallakurichi, Salem, Vellore, Tirupathur, Ranipet and Tiruvannamalai. Separately, Chennai airport resumed arrivals after suspending it till 6 pm over rains and crosswinds.
