Recently, the Central government was criticised massively when they claimed that they do not have data regarding the death of migrant labourers nationwide during the COVID-19 lockdown. In addition to this, in a letter to the Union government, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) listed the names of 382 doctors who died due to Covid-19 in India after the Centre made it clear that they do not know how many doctors have lost their lives during the pandemic. As per this data, the state of Gujarat ranks the third-highest with the number of casualties among doctors in all states of India. According to the list, there were 61 deaths in Tamil Nadu, 41 deaths recorded in Andhra Pradesh, 38 reported in Gujarat, 36 in Maharashtra, and 35 in Karnataka. Of 38 doctors that succumbed to death in Gujarat, 16 were from Ahmedabad whereas a total of six from Surat.
