As per orders issued by principal secretary, health and family welfare, Amit Mohan Prasad, no private lab or hospital will be able to charge more than Rs 2,500 from patients in need to confirm or rule out the infection. On Thursday, the Gujarat government had also put a cap on the price of Covid-19 tests by private labs.
Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel who is also State’s Health minister today said private labs will have to charge Rs. 2500 for each Covid-19 test, when sample is collected at laboratory itself. When sample is collected by private laboratory at home or at hospital, the charge will be Rs. 3,000. The charge levied previously was Rs. 4,500.
