With 398 fresh novel coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours in the state, Gujarat's Covid-19 count today crossed the 8,000-mark. Currently, there are 8195 confirmed cases in the state, said a health official. Death toll also increased to 493 after 21 more patients succumbed to the highly contagious disease.

Out of the 398 new cases, Ahmedabad alone recorded 278 more positive patients in the last 24 hours. Also, 18 of 21 deaths in the state in 24 hours were reported from hospitals in Ahmedabad, followed by one each deaths in Surat,  Anand and Bhavnagar, Principal Secretary, Health, Jayanti Ravi said. 

Apart from that, the state currently has 5156 active cases, the condition of 31 patients is serious and they are on ventilator support while 5126 are stable and 454 persons recovered from the infection and given discharge in the last 24 hours. Till now 2545 patients have been discharged.
