As severe heatwave conditions gripped Gujarat, 16 of the 23 towns monitored by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in the state crossed the 42°C mark on Wednesday. Surendranagar was the hottest town in the state, with the mercury touching the 45°C mark, a statement from IMD Gujarat said.
