The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has banned the export of all varieties of onions with immediate effect amid rising prices. "Export policy of onions is amended from free to prohibited till further orders," the Ministry of Commerce and Industry said. Price of onions touched as much as Rs.80 per kilogram in several states across the country. "Export policy of onion for the item description at Serial Number 51 and 52 of Chapter 7 of Schedule 2 of ITC (HS) classification of Export and Import Items is amended from free to prohibited till further orders," a Commerce Ministry notification said.
