Five convicts in the Bodh Gaya serial bomb blasts case were sentenced to life imprisonment by a special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in Patna on Friday. On July 7, 2013, nine serial bombs exploded in the Buddhist pilgrim town,causing injuries to five people, including two monks.
Imtiyaz Ansari, Haider Ali, Mujib Ullah, Omair Siddiqui and Azharuddin Qureishi were convicted by the court on May 25 under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Unlawful Activity (Prevention) Act and the Explosives Act. Sixth accused Taufique Ahmed, a juvenile then, was earlier sentenced to three years of confinement in a remand home. Judge also sentenced convicts Haider Ali and Omair Siddiqui to 14 years and seven years of imprisonment respectively. The court imposed Rs. 10,000 fine on all the convicts.
