The Japanese government passes a bill to allow 83-year old Emperor Akihito to abdicate the throne. Reports suggest that he could step down by end of December 2018 and be replaced by crown prince Naruhito;  worries of a succession crisis as the Emperor’s eldest granddaughter Princess Mako has decided to marry a ‘commoner’ giving up her place at the Palace.
