After journalist Priya Ramani's acquittal in a defamation case filed by MJ Akbar, Union Minister Smriti Irani said "due protection of the law is given to every woman". "I'm aware that judicial bodies on the basis of the evidence presented before them can pronounce adequate judgement," she added. "My victory will encourage more women to speak up," Ramani had said.
