China said that it does not seek confrontation with the United States but will remain stern in the face of pressure being imposed by US President Donald Trump. This comes after Washington hiked tariffs on Chinese imports to 125 per cent.
He Yongqian, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, said, “China’s position is clear and consistent. If the US wants to talk, our door remains open, but dialogue must be conducted on the basis of mutual respect and equality."
“Pressure, threats, and blackmail are not the right way to deal with China", the spokesperson said, reiterating that there are no winners in a trade war. She also warned that if Washington “insists on its own way, China will follow through to the end".
